El sexto número de HiSTOReLo ofrece una serie de contribuciones con los siguientes énfasis: a) una invitación a reflexionar y a revisar los giros de la historia desde una perspectiva particular a los enfoques posmodernistas y las experiencias de formación profesional, b) un sumario de enfoques propios de visiones regionales y locales durante el siglo XIX y XX, que revisan situaciones particulares, como por ejemplo, el contrabando y las prácticas sociales en la Península de la Guajira, las experiencias comunicacionales de la política en la Provincia de Cartagena, y las dinámicas de tenencia de la tierra, experiencias ideológicas bipartidistas y filantrópicas en Antioquia, c) la problemática de la educación y la política electoral colombiana, y d) un enfoque sobre cambios socio-culturales en la Isla de Chiloé (Chile). Todas las contribuciones se inscriben en un espectro particular a las categorías de Historia, Cultura, Política y Educación, que engloban los distintos resultados de investigación expuestos.

History requires facing the new modern debates, which from the post-modernism critical sight have been done within the philosophical and social sciences scope. This contributes to check old conceptual and methodological assumptions, and allows establishing more interdisciplinary fruitful dialogues, with political, social or cultural problems, which from the present reiteratively ask the way the past has been interpreted. Even though the post-modernism trends have questioned the epistemological statute of those great accounts which pretend to explain the past; the historic science has not been away of those issues by creating new topic opening-up, as evidenced in the cultural history field and the works about historical memory.

This study focuses on how the territorial control and power play on the commodity circulation quite dynamic social relations of individuals who lived in the Colombian Caribbean during the second half of the eighteenth century, more specifically, on the peninsula Guajira. It will show how the inhabitants of this peninsula are favored in the geography of its territory to be linked to the dynamics of commodity circulation by implementing practices such as smuggling.

This article is an historical approach to the land tenure evolution in Hatoviejo, (Bello, Antioquia, Colombia) during the 17th and 18th centuries. In this article it is studied the mercy fragmentation process of lands that were given by the city of Antioquia town council to the conqueror Gaspar de Rodas in the 16th century, who later ceded them to his sons. In a brief it is shown how those large properties were subdivided to become several cattle farms and farms where most of the food consumed in the province was produced. From notarial registers it is reconstructed the subsequent fragmentation of those farms until the birth of small and medium properties belonging to mestizo people, native people and mulatto people, and having as a conclusion the analysis of the land tenure structure from this studied period.

This article shows how it was originated in Antioquia the conservative party reaction process against liberal party reforms; reforms undertaken along the New Granada in the mid 19th century. In the historical context it is mentioned a political speech which faced two ideologies that were starting to be shaped due to the political parties emergency. The text analyses the different speeches broadcasted during the conservative party revolution that in a large extent shaped the political conscience in Antioquia. Antioquia became the headquarters for the conservative party, as later are created the basis for ensuring not only an strictly conservative political view, but also the election strategies that helped the conservative party in that region of the country.

The article explains the institutional and governmental context from which, in the second half of the 19th century, the Concordat in Colombia is established. It also explains the role from the Church about the education teaching and the arrival to the country of foreign religious orders, especially the French congregation from the Eudist Fathers. The central objectives from the conservative party’s governments and foreign religious congregations are the re-Christianization and the implementation of a modern-catholic educational system aimed at controlling and dominating the technique. Thus in a context in which it is adopted a positivism aimed at the order and progress idea, but related to the instruction and technical and catholic training function that were accomplished in the country by French missions supported by the conservative governments from the Regeneración

The author studies how the communication networks in Cartagena Provice were composed during the 30s years in the 19th century, a period in which politics was influenced by the local milieu experiences. More than a public opinion, in modern terms, networks used to establish oral, written and printed communication systems which had an important influence on institutions and local power establishing. Some specific places and environments (a party, to be out on the town, a gallera[1],thw gang, the classroom) and some media (the gossip, the conversation, the libelous article, the rag, the newspaper) used to be for receiving and re-elaborating the politics within Cartagena Province. The “noise”, the “public noises” and the “disorder” are understood as practical ways for participating in politics. The connection of the different moments with the communication ways was a vital fact for a society in which printing and writing were deciding for accessing to politics representation.

This article studies the Sociedad de Beneficencia San Vicente de Paúl in Medellin, Colombia from 1890 to 1930. It offers a summary on its origin and social practice. It analyses its religious character and the participation of the Catholic Church, the woman’s role and the political role in its organization. It also presents the different social and charitable works done in the city. The author develops a historical approach taking into account a cultural heritage, and the use of traditional techniques typical of the discipline.

The article examines the liberal party candidate Enrique Olaya Herrera’s election campaign, as a presidential candidate, hold in 1930, in which he competed against the conservative party candidates Guillermo Valencia, Alfredo Vázquez Cobo and Alberto Castrillón. The approach develops a unique perspective to the cultural history put into practice in political phenomena. It analysis the procedures and organizations used by the Liberal Party candidate to come closer to the elector and get his support in an open competition; the development of that new relationship and how the citizen participation in this election event increased. Are used socializing areas such as the street and the main square, and they have a new meaning for the spreading of that emotional relationship between Olaya Herrera and the people. This relationship is shown in marchs which were taken in photograph and discussed in different newspapers from that time during the election campaign. It is all a manifestation full of pictures, symbols, emblems, slogans, flags and distinctive words.

The article is about the sea voyages that men and women from the Quehui island (Chiloé archipelago, Los Lagos region, Chile) had to do during the first half of the 20th century for reaching Castro (provincial capital). The author is based on stories from the local settlers, and the text describes the community social environment around such routines. The article describes the motorboat arrival which replaces the previous navigation practices, and its social impact on islanders. The article is based on a fieldwork carried out in the study area, the use of interviews as a technique and a bibliographic study.

“En el ámbito diverso de lo local y regional se arraigan la conciencia histórica, las manifestaciones culturales autóctonas, el amor por las peculiaridades y los sabores, valores y saberes propios, que son los rasgos distintivos de la identidad” (p. 11). Con estas provocadoras palabras Napoleón Peralta Barrera nos introduce al libro Historia de Chiquinquirá, resultado de una investigación, que tiene como objetivo aportar algo nuevo al conocimiento historiográfico del Municipio de Chiquinquirá en el Departamento de Boyacá. Es a partir de un enfoque local como el autor desde la misma introducción contextualiza, lo que es la historia local y regional, para mostrarnos una historia que va desde el periodo Prehispánico hasta el Republicano, a partir del transcurrir cotidiano y del ciudadano como actor y participante en la configuración de la historia de la patria chica.

La obra de Mónica Ghirardi y Francisco Chacón Jiménez: Dinámicas Familiares en el contexto de los Bicentenarios Latinoamericanos, edita los análisis y trabajos de diversos autores, mediante una división de áreas puntuales tales como: 1. Familias y sociedad: Reflexiones teóricas u debates historiográficos; 2. Matrimonio, celibato y catolicismo ilustrado; 3. Compadrazgos, redes y poder; 4. Familias, justicia y vida material; y 5. Cuestiones de familia en la modernidad.
