| Strengthening Understanding of Customer Services and Practical Instructions for Hospital Financial Management | Author : Ignatius Roni Setyawan | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Increasing competition in the health industry at the national level makes the hospital management always tidy up in improving the quality of service to patients and improving the quality of medical infrastructure facilities according to the standard HNAC (Hospital National Accreditation Committee). Armed with the success of the value chain strategy concept training agenda at Elizabeth Semarang Hospital on May 16, 2018, I submitted the same training proposal to the Miriam Pratama Clinic, Kudus. The underlying factor is the urgency of the MIRIAM Pratama Clinic to raise the level of its business to become an C accredited hospital so that it can continue to survive and from the results of their communication with one of my relatives in Kudus who has heard me conduct training on the topic of value chain strategy at Elizabeth Hospital Semarang. So then I made a communication with the MIRIAM Pratama Clinic to get approval for the implementation of the training activities on March 18, 2019. Seeing the urgency of increasing the status of this business level, then I added aspects of financial management with the basis of considerations to raise the level of business and build a system of value chain strategies from Swayne, et.al. (2006) a large cash flow is needed. And this will be fulfilled with the right budgeting model. Finally, the activity was successfully carried out on March 18, 2019 with a very good response from participants who asked about how to regulate social and business motives in managing clinical businesses in the midst of a lack of cash flow and a budgeting model that does not have to be a month to month approach from Berger (2008). So the short answer is to raise the level of business, business motives should be a priority because improving the quality of services will require large costs and to fulfill them is not necessary with a month to month budgeting approach from Berger (2008) but can be from budget flexibility according to the clinical work calendar. In the mentoring activities on April 18, 2019 there were more positive results from the training activities on March 18, 2019 namely the more enthusiastic doctors, nurses and non-nursing staff working and more positive testimonials from key patients, mothers giving birth and their families. This has had a positive impact on status of the clinic as a C accreditation. |
| Socially Responsible Human Resource Management Practices and Job Satisfaction of Public Servants with Disabilities in South-West Nigeria | Author : Idam, N.M.R. , Egbuta, O.U. , Adeoye, S.O. , Ajike, E.O. | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Overt ill-treatments from management and co-workers have often led to job dissatisfaction and discouraged other persons with disabilities keen and able to join the workforce. Persons with disabilities continue to suffer employment-related and other forms of discrimination, resulting in low job satisfaction and job discontentment. These conditions accentuate the need for socially responsible human resource management practices in organisations. This study examined socially responsible human resource management practices and job satisfaction of public servants with disabilities in South-West Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for this study. The studys sample size of 422 public servants and leaders was determined using total enumeration sampling technique. A structured and validated questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used to obtain quantitative and qualitative data. Cronbachs alpha reliability coefficients for the constructs ranged between 0.69 and 0.84. The response rate was 95%. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential (multiple linear regression and hierarchical regression) statistics. The study found that SRHRM had a statistically significant effect on job satisfaction (Adj.R2 = 0.53, F(5, 410) = 92.07, p < 0.05). The interviews indicated that only two of five States had a deliberate strategy driving recruitment of persons with disabilities. A vast majority were employed as teachers in special schools, and diverse administrative roles across government ministries, departments and agencies. All States provided varying degrees of basic support and benefits, and stated that the employment of persons with disabilities was influenced by its leadership and affected organisational reputation. The study concluded that SRHRM affects job satisfaction of public servants with disabilities in South-West Nigeria. The study recommended that the government, in conjunction with institutional stakeholders and advocacy groups, should facilitate the adoption of SRHRM practices in South-West Nigeria. In addition, the involvement of the private sector and provision of financial grants and subsidies for employers would enhance wider employment, inclusion and quality organisational support for persons with disabilities. |

| A Study of the Effect of the Treasury Single Account on Commercial Banks Deposits and Lending in Zambia | Author : Felix Mulenga , Dr. Taonaziso Chowa | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) in Zambia brought about drastic changes in the management of public funds. The Bank of Zambia assumed custodianship of public funds while Commercial Banks remain revenue collection agents throughout the country. This study investigated the effect of the TSA on Commercial Banks Deposit Mobilization and Lending in Zambia. Secondary and Time series data were collected from the Bank of Zambia (BOZ) annual reports covering the pre- and post-TSA implementation eras, over a ten-year period (2010-2019). The independent variable was represented by Government Deposits (representing the TSA), while aggregate Commercial Banks Deposits and Loans and Advances were the dependent variables. The data were analysed using descriptive, regression and correlation analysis, with the aid of IBM SPSS Statistics version 28. The findings of the study revealed that Government Deposits have a significant positive effect on Commercial Banks Deposit Mobilization [(P-value 0.001; (CI: 95%)]. The study also revealed that Government Deposits have significant positive effect on Commercial Banks Loans and Advances [(P-value 0.001; (CI: 95%)]. The trend analysis on Government Deposits further revealed a slow growth in Government Deposits after TSA implementation compared to the pre-TSA period. The trend analysis on Loans and Advances also revealed a slower growth in Loans and Advances during the post –TSA era. The study therefore concluded that the TSA which aims to withdraw Government Deposits from Commercial Banks has a negative effect on Commercial Bank Deposits and their lending ability. The study recommended that banks should develop strategies to attract private sector deposits, to fill the void created by the implementation of the TSA. Banks should come up with innovative solutions to tap into the unbanked population. It is important that banks develop attractive savings products to encourage the culture of saving among citizens. The study further recommended that the Ministry of Finance should consider allowing Commercial Banks involved in revenue collection, a few days float before revenue is remitted to the main TSA account at Bank of Zambia (BOZ). |

| Secondary School Enrollment in Nigeria: The Role of Remittances from Abroad | Author : Ihugba, Okezie A. , Okoroafor, Stella N. | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) method, the study looked at how remittances affected secondary school enrollment in Nigeria. The research uses annual data from 1981 to 2022. Remittances from overseas, GDP per capita, gross fixed capital formation, inflation, and the ratio of tertiary school enrollment are the five channels that are taken into consideration. The findings show that the remittances coefficient indicates a one-unit increase in remittances leads to a -0.0168-unit decrease in the secondary school enrollment rate, although not statistically significant. This suggests that when remittances are used for basic needs like housing, healthcare, and daily expenses, there is less money available for schooling. Families may feel that the high fees are excessive and that income dynamics cannot support the costs of secondary education. The findings also show that the log of GDP per capita is associated with a 0.0626-unit increase in the log of secondary school enrollment rate. Tertiary school enrollment is associated with an increase in the current log of secondary school enrollment rates because higher secondary school enrollment rates are driven by increased education desires, tertiary opportunities, and better access. The study concludes that while remittances have the potential to impact educational decisions and outcomes in general, they had no effect on secondary school enrollment rates in Nigeria or during the study period, and it suggests that the government look into the challenges faced by families that rely on remittances for education. Pay careful attention to the outcomes of implemented policies and programmes so that you can assess their effectiveness and adjust as needed in response to community input. |

| Integrated Strategic Analytical Framework for Analysing and Improving A Banks Market Performance during Periods of Disruptive Competition | Author : Jennifer Davis-Adesegha | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :As the Caribbean financial market becomes increasingly competitive as a result of the increasingly more innovative fintech companies and other revolutionary traditional banks activities, a critical analysis of the internal and external variables and changes that can undermine a banks effective market performance is essential for discerning the improvement strategies that must be adopted. However, the challenge has often arisen from lack of the accurate approach for accomplishing such internal and external analysis. To fill such a gap, this study uses integrative review as one of the techniques of qualitative-content analysis to evaluate different banking performance improvement strategies and strategic management theories. Through such analysis, the study aimed to discern the integrated strategic analytical framework that can be extracted and suggested to the banking executives for analysing and improving a banks market performance during periods of disruptive competition. To improve a banks effective market performance during periods of enormous disruptions, social construction and re-construction of the merging findings imply that the accurate analysis and response to the unfolding changes in the external trends will require the banking executives to use the three frameworks strategic analysis to inform the competitive course of directions that the bank can undertake. The Three-Frameworks Strategic Analysis will require the banking executives to evaluate the stage of its industry growth stages in conjunction with the use of Porters “Five Forces of Industry Analysis” and Porters “Four Corners of Competitors Analysis”. Following the accurate understanding of the industry and market dynamics, findings suggest the bank executives can then craft and apply the strategies for leveraging their competitiveness whilst also countering disrupters. Such strategies would require increasing the investment in R&D to introduce novel digital banking technologies as well as the introduction of novel digital financial products/services that respond or even exceed the unfolding customer expectations. Other critical strategies would require the assimilation or nurturing and integrating the most disruptive fintech companies as part of the essential business partners. Once these strategies are being executed, it is essential the banking executives must also analyse the impacts of such strategies on the improvement of a banks liquidity and profitability. Basing on such insights, the study enriches the existing theories by offering the Integrated Strategic Analytical Framework that the contemporary banking executives can adopt for analysing and improving a banks market performance during periods of disruptive competition. However, future research can still explore how improving employeescreativity bolsters a banks innovativeness to catalyse its effective market performance during periods of disruptive competition. |
| Instigators of New Innovation Ideas for Improving A Banks Effective Market Performance in Times of Crisis | Author : Jennifer Davis-Adesegha | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Thriving in the increasingly more value-driven financial markets requires all banks to be as innovative as possible. However, as every bank engages in different forms of disruptive innovations to edge out each other, some banks tend to become lost completely on the new innovation ideas and trajectory that their innovation/innovative business activities must undertake. In contrast, others remain accurately focused with clear innovation ideas and discourses to pursue. To revolve such paradoxes, this paper offers accurate analysis of the sources or instigators of innovation that financial institutions can use to extract new innovation ideas that can be pursued to leverage their effective performance in periods of crises. Other instigators were found to arise from regulatory changes, the degree of industry or market saturation and competitors actions. To respond to the challenges that some of the banks experience about discerning the new innovation ideas to pursue and turn around their performance during a crisis, the paper suggests the model for enhancing novel banking innovations for leveraging a banks effective performance, competitiveness and sustainability during a crisis. | Impact of Innovations on SME Performance in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) | Author : Ngo Giang Thy | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This study aims to refine the broad idea of innovation by focusing on four specific types: product innovation, organizational innovation, process innovation, and R&D. These four categories will be used to measure the extent of innovation. The statistical model is used to examine the association between such innovations and business performance. The model is based on a sample size of 7,788 enterprises, with data provided by the Vietnamese General Statistics Offices. The findings validate the presence of product innovation, organizational innovation, and R&D as factors influencing SME success. Among these factors, organizational innovation has the highest influence, followed by product innovation and R&D. The causal link between process innovation and SME performance remains unestablished, as SMEs, comprising 95% or more of the market, primarily allocate their investments towards organizational innovation, product or service innovation, and R&D. This discovery serves as a valuable point of reference for both businesses and policymakers. It highlights the importance of considering potential forms of support for SMEs in order to foster innovation and achieve success. |
| Understanding Idiosyncratic Risk and Economic Growth in ASEAN | Author : Marselinus Asri | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This study examines the relationship between idiosyncratic risks, foreign direct investment (FDI), and economic growth in ASEAN countries using data from 2013 to 2022. Idiosyncratic risks refer to specific assets or individual sectors, distinct from systemic or market-wide risk. This study aims to determine whether idiosyncratic risks affect the ASEAN regions FDI flows and economic growth. The study uses structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis to analyze the ASEAN Statistical Database data. Regression weights are used to evaluate the relationship between idiosyncratic risks, FDI, inflation, SDG availability, and economic growth. The results indicate that although there is no significant direct relationship between idiosyncratic risk and FDI inflows, there is a significant positive correlation between idiosyncratic risk and economic growth. These findings have implications for policymakers and investors seeking to promote sustainable economic development in ASEAN countries. Understanding the dynamics of specific risks can inform strategies to attract FDI and stimulate economic growth. This study contributes to the theoretical basis of risk management and economic development in emerging market economies such as those in the ASEAN region. |

| Determinants of Investment Property Choice: an Empirical Analysis of Nigeria Listed Firms | Author : Israel S. AKINADEWO ( FCA, Ph.D) , Olajide J. ADEBOWALE , Bukola I. FAGBOMEDO , Adenike M. LAWAL , Kehinde S. OYEWOLE | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :In order to investigate the factors influencing the choices of investment properties of the firms listed on Nigeria Exchange Group (NGX), this study carried out an empirical investigation. 155 businesses that were listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) as of December 31, 2022, made up the studys population. A purposive sampling strategy was used to select a sample size of fifty-five firms. Data were obtained from the companies audited annual financial reports for the years 2012-2022. Panel data regression (PDR) was utilized for the analysis of data. The findings showed that the accounting choices made by businesses regarding the management of investment property are significantly influenced by both debt and business size. Furthermore, the choice of how to treat investment property in accounting is not much influenced by the degree of board independence. Moreover, non-financial firms listed on the stock exchange choose different accounting methods for their investment assets due to the negative and significant effects of ownership concentration. This is due to the fact that a company that has a high ownership concentration is less likely to base its accounting choices on the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This implies that businesses are less likely to adhere to the fair value technique for valuing investment property if their ownership is more concentrated. The study discovered that a firms accounting decision on the handling of investment property is significantly influenced by the drivers of investment property choosing. It is, thus, recommended the need for firms to set up a system that would track and assess investment property choices on an ongoing basis. This is expected to develop robust, and proactive plans that consider both short-term financial gain and long-term viability. |

| Corporate Transformation Orchestration (CTxo): Prescriptive Literature the Non-Digital-Native Companies Need Throughout Their Transformation Journey | Author : Dr. Biland Sadek | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :In response to disruptions, non-digital-native companies embark on corporate transformation journeys. Research done indicate that most companies fail to survive such journeys. So, why success varies among companies, potentially costing the global economy trillions of dollars? My hypothesis is that those who orchestrate the three components of a corporate transformation (Business model transformation, Digital enabled transformation, and Organizational transformation) are more successful in their transformation journey compared to companies who dont. By conducting a case study research of twenty transforming non-digital-native companies based in the US and EU, I validated my hypothesis and developed a prescriptive orchestration framework that allows non-digital-native companies not only successfully navigate their corporate transformation journey but also switch their transformation to always-on. |

| RPL Management Model for Capacity Building of Village Apparatus: A Case Study on Cooperation between Surabaya State University and Bojonegoro District Government | Author : Muhammad Farid Maruf , Abdullah Said , Firre An Suprapto | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Law Number 23 of 2014 grants regional autonomy, which means that each regional institution is authorized to manage its own policies. This includes village governments, which are regulated by Law Number 6 of 2014. Therefore, it is crucial to have competent village personnel who can provide exceptional services to the citizens. In 2021, 45,387 village heads, 43,876 village secretaries, 31,147 village-owned enterprise managers, and 7,889 professional assistants graduated from high school, according to data from the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration. This highlights the need to strengthen the education of village apparatus. One way to achieve this is through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program, which is a collaboration between the Ministry and universities such as the State University of Surabaya and the State University of Yogyakarta. This program can help improve the skills of village apparatus. However, there is a gap between the reality and the implementation of the collaboration between the Ministry and Pertindes regarding the implementation of RPL for village apparatus. In Bojonegoro Regency, for instance, only 61% of village heads had a high school educational background in 2022, according to the Office of Community Empowerment and Village Government. To address this issue, the researcher aims to understand the management of RPL in Bojonegoro Regency to improve the capacity of village apparatus. The research is based at the State University of Surabaya and Bojonegoro Regency. The study obtained primary data from interviews, literature studies, and a memorandum of understanding between the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) and the Bojonegoro Regency Government. The researcher used a knowledge management approach in program planning, which focused on six main stages in development planning. These stages included problem identification, problem diagnosis, design stage, design implementation, design testing, and solution formulation. The results of the study showed that collaboration and support from educational institutions are strategic solutions for improving village human resources. Additionally, the RPL program is relevant to the functions of higher education institutions in preparing personnel for village government administration. The implementation of RPL in Bojonegoro is in accordance with the principles of cooperation. However, there were some technical obstacles in the implementation of activities. |
| The Effect of Trade Liberalization on Economic Growth in Kenya | Author : Tochi Maryblossom Chukwu , Dr. Susan Jepkorir | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Trade liberalization and its impact on economic growth has been a subject of debate for many years both at international and local level. The debate has been lengthened by the fact that there are no theoretical underpinnings that directly link trade liberalization to economic growth or are there any absolute terms and conditions by which trade liberalization leads to economic growth. Trade liberalization is the removal or reduction of barriers to trade that ensures free movement of goods and services from one nation to another. Kenya liberalized their trade with the hope of having dynamic gains from trade, and that the liberalization will lead to economic growth and, consequently, improve welfare. However, its key development challenges still include poverty, inequality, youth unemployment, continued weak private sector investment, and the vulnerability of the economy to internal and external shocks. This study aimed to examine the effect of trade liberalization on economic growth in Kenya and finding empirical answers to this phenomenon is what motivated this study. The objective of the study was to examine the effect of manufacturing output and foreign direct investment on Kenyas GDP. Foreign direct investment and manufacturing output were tested to determine their effect on the Kenyan economic growth. This study adopted descriptive research design. Time series data spanning 1990 to 2022 was used for the study. The data was meticulously sourced from the World Bank. A time series diagnostic test was carried out on the data. This study adopted descriptive designs. Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model was applied. Results showed that foreign direct investment inflows and manufacturing output had a significant effect on economic growth in Kenya. In conclusion, these findings imply that although foreign direct investment (FDI) may have negative effect on Kenyas economic growth while manufacturing output support economic growth. In order to sustain long-term economic growth, Kenyan policymakers may want to consider ways to draw in beneficial FDI while simultaneously emphasizing the manufacturing sector which will be beneficial for the economy. |
| The Impact of Food Security on Economic Growth through Interaction with Poverty Levels | Author : Dwi Sukma Novitasari , Sishadiyati | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Food security has a significant impact on economic aspects, poverty levels, and the quality of human resources in a region. Food security issues are something that must be watched out by the East Java Provincial government. The high population and poverty level can cause problems in economic growth in East Java Province. The purpose of the study is to determine how the poverty level can strengthen or weaken the relationship between economic growth and food security as measured from the Food Availability Index, Food Affordability Index, and Food Utilization Index. This research is important because food security not only talks about food consumption for the community but also how food availability, affordability, and utilization can be the basis of sustainable development. The data used are secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics of East Java Province and the Indonesian National Food Agency. This research was conducted with a quantitative approach using Moderation Regression Analysis (MRA) method on panel data. The results showed that partially the poverty level can strengthen the influence of the Food Availability Index and Food Utilization Index on economic growth. In this case, the poverty level is classified as quasi-moderation which has a dual role as a moderation variable and an independent variable directly affects economic growth. Meanwhile, the effect of the Food Affordability Index on economic growth is not moderated by the poverty level as a predictor of moderation. |

| Analysing the Effectiveness of Hotel, Restaurant, and Advertising Taxes Revenue in Enhancing the Regional Original Revenue of DKI Jakarta Province | Author : Dian Riskarini , Yuli Ardianto , Basis G. Andamari | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This study analysis the effectiveness of Hotel Tax, Restaurant Tax, and Advertising Tax in enhancing the Regional Original Revenue (PAD) of DKI Jakarta Province. The study examines local tax revenues from the fiscal years 2020 to 2022, focusing on the constant growth of Restaurant and Advertising Taxes. It looks at how the regional government of DKI Jakarta has explored the potential of these local taxes through policies and regulations, resulting in a significant increase in local tax revenue. The study underlines that the annual increase in local tax revenue from Restaurant Tax, Hotel Tax, and Advertising Tax should not be the sole measure of success in harnessing their potential. The effectiveness of these local taxes serves as a gauge of how far the achievement target will be reached, with higher percentages indicating higher effectiveness. This study found that Hotel Tax, Restaurant Tax, and Advertising Tax have been highly effective in meeting the revenue targets set by the regional government, with effectiveness rates ranging from 99.1% to 108.7%. However, the contribution of these local taxes to the regional original revenue is categorized as very low, indicating variations in contribution amounts based on differences in tax rates. Despite the low contribution, the effectiveness of tax revenue in meeting targets remains high. To increase the regional original revenue, the focus should be on expanding the scope of local tax objects rather than setting excessively high targets, as optimizing the potential of local taxes is crucial for enhancing the regional original revenue of DKI Jakarta Province. |

| A Study on the Impacts of Youtube as an Earning Platform on the Motivation Factors of Generation Z in the Workplace | Author : Komathi Thiagararan | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Motivation has been proposed as one of the significant and effective methods for handling employee related issues in an organization since the 18th century, when Industrial Revolution (IR) 1.0 transformed the livelihood of people. Human resource practitioners and scholars, through their past studies and research from different eras of time, have identified various factors that motivate the employees. As humans are complex, various motivation theories have been developed by the researchers to understand peoples motivation better from different perspectives including their needs. Studies have indicated that various employee-related issues including employee turnover, organizational commitment, employee retention have been resolved through implementing the recommended motivation factors. This whole scenario was effective enough for the prevailing generations including Baby boomers, Gen X and Gen Y, as in most of the cases, issues arise from either the employees or the management where there was a gap of expectation fulfillment between these two parties only. The key question is, apart from these two parties, how if an external environment factor (refers to social media – YouTube in this study), leave an impact on the motivation factors of employees, especially the Gen Z, who is the first generation stepped onto the globally connected world. The focus of this study is centered on exploring the impacts of YouTube as an earning platform on the motivation factors of Gen Z in their workplace. |

| The Moderating Role of Government Effectiveness on the Relationship between Selected Macroeconomic Variables and Horticultural Export Performance in Kenya | Author : Jonathan Lemurt , Elvis Kimani Kiano , Yabesh Ombwori Kongo , Simeon Kiptarus Nganai | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The horticultural sector in Kenya plays a crucial role in driving the countrys economy, making up approximately 1.6% of the countrys GDP in 2019. Despite generating a significant Ksh152.3 billion in 2022, the value of these exports exhibited a decline compared to Ksh157.7 billion in 2021. These decreases in horticultural exports performance warrant further investigation into the underlying factors impacting this important sector. This study examines the role of government effectiveness in the relationship between different macroeconomic factors and Kenyas horticultural exports performance using time series data from 1990 to 2021. The studys key findings highlight the significant influence of government effectiveness on the relationship between exchange rates, inflation rates, interest rates, and horticultural export performance. This implies that well-designed government policies have the potential to enhance the positive impacts of these macroeconomic factors. The findings highlight the crucial role of government effectiveness in shaping the impact of macroeconomic factors on Kenyas horticultural export performance. Considering these findings, the study provides a few policy recommendations. Investments in strengthening government institutions and policies can amplify the benefits of favourable exchange rates, controlled inflation, and stable interest rates on horticultural exports. Additionally, taking steps to enhance market access, decrease trade barriers, and negotiate more favourable trade agreements can amplify the advantages of favourable terms of trade for horticultural exports. Lastly, it is important to consider policies that can help address the negative effects of unfavourable terms of trade. This includes strategies like export diversification and risk management, which can be particularly effective with strong government backing. |

| Sustainability as a Puzzle Will Be A Portuguese Utopia | Author : Maria José da Silva Faria , Isabel Maria Machado Oliveira , Jorge Ferreira Dias de Figueiredo | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Sustainability is not a new topic, but it is on the agenda, particularly as it is increasingly discussed in forums, conferences, articles and academic dissertations. The number of scientific journals in the environmental, social and sustainability fields is growing all the time, as are specialised courses in the area. It is therefore clear that the topic of sustainability is not only important for companies and citizens, but also for the planet we live on, particularly the parts that make it up. The aim of this study is to find out whether Portuguese companies are active in the field of sustainability and whether they publicise it and, if so, how. The aim is to ascertain what sustainability actions, measures or strategies are undertaken by companies. Also, if sustainability information is produced, what formats or means of communicating information are used, including quantitative and qualitative information. Finally, we want to find out whether the companies are concerned about minimising the social and environmental impacts that their business activity can have on the environment. A sample of 16 Portuguese companies listed on the PSI of the Portuguese Stock Exchange as at 3rd April 2024 was selected to achieve the research objectives. The study is based on a quantitative and qualitative approach. The technique used was a double investigation: on the one hand, their annual reports and websites were analysed, and, on the other hand, a questionnaire was sent out via email which was answered using the google forms platform. The results show that companies use sustainability strategically in the medium and long term, and therefore consider the impacts of their activities on the environment, which is why the majority also believe it to be an essential issue in the eyes of the stakeholders who interact with them. It was concluded that sustainability is a relevant issue for this sample, given that companies produce more internal information than external information, and disclose sustainability information in autonomous reports or together with the annual report and accounts, rather than in so-called sustainability reports. It should also be noted that most of the information produced is more qualitative than quantitative. In this case, it needs a standard to ensure comparability. However, more studies are needed to prove the capacity for understanding, reporting and practising sustainability actions outside this sample and in other parts of the world. |

| Effect of Renewable Energy Consumption on Economic Growth in Kenya | Author : Moses Odhiambo , Elvis Kiano , Stephen Bitok | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :One of the significant economic growth problems in Kenya is the income inequality and poverty rate which has made it impossible for among the households to afford clean energy. While the country has experienced some economic growth over the years, it is not yet clear whether the adoption of renewable energy has been the cause of this growth. There have been mixed results on the studies done on renewable energy use and their effect on economic growth and therefore calls for further research. The general objective of the study was to determine the effect of renewable energy consumption on economic growth in the Kenyan economy. Specifically, the study specific objectives were to determine the effect of solar energy consumption, geothermal energy consumption, and hydroelectric energy consumption and wind power energy consumption on economic growth in Kenya. This was made possible through an analysis of 37 years data from 1986 to 2022 on an annual time series basis. This study employed the endogenous growth theory as the main theory of the study and triple bottom line theory as the supplementary theory. The study employed an explanatory research design and analyzed data using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag model to establish whether renewable energy consumption had any effect on economic growth of the Kenyan economy. Findings of diagnostic test demonstrated that there was no multicollinearity among the independent variables, residuals were homoscedastic, and there was no autocorrelation among the residuals. The results of the Jarque bera normality test showed that the studys variables were normally distributed. The Augmented dickey fuller unit root test both showed that there was no unit root and that the variables had a short run relationship. Additionally, the models stability over time was confirmed by the CUSUM test. Findings of the study were: the relationship between hydroelectric energy consumption and economic growth was positive and significant, wind power energy consumption and economic growth was positive and significant and between geo-thermal energy consumption and economic growth was positive and significant. The study concluded that geo-thermal energy consumption, hydroelectric energy consumption and wind power energy consumption significantly affect economic growth positively. The study therefore recommends that the Kenyan government should set ambitious targets for renewable energy consumption such as a specific percentage of electricity generation or overall energy consumption. The Kenyan government should enhance and enforce regulatory frameworks specific to renewable energy in order to provide a stable and predictable investment environment. Finally, the Kenyan government should focus on expanding access to renewable energy solutions in rural areas, where energy access is limited. Implementing off-grid renewable energy systems, such as solar home systems and mini-grids, can provide clean and reliable electricity to rural communities. |

| Analyzing the Determinants of Trade Balance: An Empirical Investigation of Indonesias Economic Dynamics | Author : Asia Khamis Nyange , Ajibu Jonas | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The study investigates the determinants of Indonesias trade balance focusing on five key factors: money supply, foreign direct investment, exchange rate, carbon dioxide emissions, and government expenditure. Utilizing secondary time-series data from 1990 to 2022 and employing vector error correction model analysis, the research reveals significant insights. In the short term, only the money supply notably influences trade balances, while the other factors show no significant impact. However, in the long term, foreign direct investment, exchange rate, carbon dioxide emissions, and government expenditure positively affect the trade balance, with the money supply displaying an insignificant impact. The studys conclusions offer policy suggestions to address these findings. These suggestions include putting policies in place to lower carbon emissions and encourage sustainable growth, making sure government funding for sustainable development initiatives is used effectively, luring foreign direct investment, keeping exchange rates stable, and being cautious when controlling the money supply to preserve price stability. The objective of these recommendations is to improve Indonesias trade balance sustainability. However, the analysis admits its limitations in not accounting for all macroeconomic factors, such as GDP, interest rates, and industrial production, that affect trade balance. Notwithstanding these drawbacks, the study provides insightful information to help policymakers develop plans for enhancing the dynamics of Indonesias trade balance. |
| Debt Restructuring and Financial Performance SOEs in Indonesia | Author : Hotman Fredy , Khalida Utami , Mentari Pagiku | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This study aims to examine the effect of debt restructuring on the financial performance of state-owned companies in Indonesia. Debt restructuring is carried out to provide support in the form of leeway for companies that are experiencing financial difficulties so that they can get out of the problem within a certain period. The samples taken and selected in this study were based on purposive sampling for SOEs companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange with financial statement data for the period 2018-2022. There are three research models tested using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that there was a decrease in financial performance after the company restructured its debt, both financial performance as measured by profitability, liquidity and sustainable growth rate. The decline in financial performance can be caused, among others, by the use of restructuring methods by extending the maturity of debt payments (rescheduling) which causes a decrease in the amount of short-term debt, including affecting the decline in the companys profit growth. |
| Cost Plus Pricing as a Sustainable Solution for MSMEs Case Study: Permata Bakery Lampung | Author : Putri Adelia , I Wayan Suparta , Indriyani , Toto Gunarto , Dedy Yuliawan | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This study aims to accurately determine product selling prices by calculating the cost-plus pricing method at Permata Bakery. This research uses primary data with descriptive quantitative methods. The results showed that the selling price set by Permata Bakery differed from the one the author calculated. The calculations made by the business owners tend to be lower, so the selling price of the product is lower, and the profit earned tends to be lower because the selling price of the product is not accurate. Using cost-plus pricing-based calculations, Permata Bakerys profits are expected to increase. This research will help business owners set a precise selling price to make the business profitable. The cost-plus pricing method is expected to provide sustainable profits for small and medium enterprises, which, in practice, find it challenging to increase business capital in a sustainable business effort. |

| Comparative Analysis of the Reduced form Model and the Structural Model in Credit Risk Modelling | Author : Godfrey Ehikioya Oyamienlen | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Credit risk models are statistical tools to infer the future default probabilities and loss distribution of values of a portfolio of debts. Credit risk modelling is prevalent in todays financial decision-making process. It turns out that both models of modelling credit risk contribute to explaining the default risk of listed firms, however, reduce-form model outperformances the structural model. Structural models are used to calculate the probability of default for a firm based on the value of assets and liabilities. The basic idea is that a company (with limited liability) defaults if the value of its assets is less than the debt of the company. The causal driver of defaults in structural model will choose to work with variables that help us explain what causes defaults. Default risk is endogenous in the structural model, this is so because the factors that causes defaults within a path are predictable. The structural model is an economic model with focus on options pricing, call option and put option. It provides clarity about the nature of defaults and how the various economic features that are chosen to relate with each other when defaults occur. The reduced form model is mostly concerned with prediction of when does defaults occurs? Default risk is exogenous to the reduced form model, can be caused by random events and most often comes as a surprise. Statistical models are used to observe the variables and help maximise the reduced form model. The empirical result suggests that reduce-form model can better predict the firms default risk. |
