Pilot project - 8 week Mindfulness program for university students | | Author : Silvana Nirino, Paula Oliveira Silva, Silvia Helena Mondenesi Pucci | | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of Mindfulness practice applied in an 8-week program in university students.
METHODS: An intervention study was carried out, with a convenience sample and voluntary participation of students, enrolled for an 8-week program of Mindfulness practices. The following questionnaires were used: sociodemographic profile; perception of self-satisfaction; Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21); and Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ-BR), both in an adapted and validated version for Brazilian Portuguese. The questionnaires were completed anonymously at the beginning and end of the program.
RESULTS: The participants were 58 university students from the psychology course, between the 1st and 10th semesters, aged between 18 and 60 years. To minimally evaluate the pilot project, it was necessary for each participant to attend at least 5 meetings. Those that did not reach this minimum participation were not considered in the final comparative results. Finally, 16 participants were included in the study analyses. The mean was used to compare the initial and final results of the questionnaires. The comparisons showed a reduction in the severity levels of the symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety, as well as an improvement in the majority of the Mindfulness scores obtained in the facets.
CONCLUSION: The application of the 8-week Mindfulness program to university students led to suggested benefits, such as a probable reduction in scores obtained in the assessment of symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression, improvement in general mindfulness and self-perception, and greater satisfaction with life itself. |
| Cardiovascular patients with covid-19 in intensive care: a systematic review | | Author : Barbara Mayumi Sansana Lee, Winnie da Silva Alves | | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :OBJECTIVE: Analyse in the literature, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and the development of cardiac or vascular dysfunctions, in individuals hospitalized in intensive care units (ICU), due to Covid-19.
METHODS: Integrative literature review, carried out in the databases: BVS: BDENF and LILACS; PuBMED: MEDLINE; Web of Science and CINAHL. Inclusion criteria, full-text articles, in Portuguese, English or Spanish, published from 2019 onwards.
RESULTS: Six articles were selected, and three central themes listed: patients with previous CVD; patients who developed heart or vascular diseases during hospitalization; and patients who presented alterations in biomarkers of cardiac injury and fibrin degradation. A prevalence of CVD between 0 and 29% of the studies was observed, as coronary diseases, arrhythmias, valvular and ventricular dysfunctions, and the incidence of CVD between 2.6 and 59%, presenting electrical, functional, structural alterations and cardiogenic shock.
CONCLUSION: An important percentage of patients with Covid-19, admitted to the ICU, who had previous CVD and who developed CVD were identified. However, until the end of this study, there weren’t studies in which 100% of the sample had previous CVD, which would be important for understanding the possible impairments under it. Even as, research that specified the types of involvement developed, named only as “cardiac injuries” or biomarkers increased. As limitations of this study, we emphasize that new research was carried out after its conclusion, which will certainly add better knowledge. This way, the concern about the severity in which Covid-19 can affect people with previous CVD and its cardiovascular manifestations remains. |
| Research of hemoparasites in ticks collected from dogs resident in the municipality of Itu, São Paulo, SP | | Author : Tânia Regina Vieira de Carvalho, Paula Rocha Andrade, Jonas Moraes Filho | | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to report the occurrence of Ehrlichia canis, Babesia canis vogeli and Rangelia vitalli in ticks collected from dogs living in the city of Itu_São Paulo/SP, Brazil.
METHODS: DNA was extracted from 200 tick samples using the extraction kit PureLink Genomic DNA Kit (Invitrogen®) and real-time PCR was performed for the detection of Ehrlichia canis, Rangelia vitalli and Babesia canis vogeli.
RESULTS: We tested 200 ticks, 1/200 (0.5%) of the genus Amblyomma aureolatum and 199/200 (99.5%) of Rhipicephalus sanguineus. The results show an occurrence rate of positivity only in R. sanguineus, being 0.5% (1/200) for E. canis; 41% (82/100) for B. c. vogeli. No ticks were positive for R. vitalli.
CONCLUSION: The detection of B. canis vogeli and E. canis in ticks collected from dogs living in the municipality of Itu, São Paulo State, Brazil; show the dispersion of these pathogens in the country and the role of R. sanguineus s.l. as a vector of these pathogens cannot be neglected. |
| Interplay between IL-1a and TGF-ß1 in the normal and hypertrophic wound healing | | Author : Victoria Reimberg, Sérgio Henrique Simonetti , Li Men Zhao | | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Wound healing is a complex process, strictly regulated at cellular and molecular levels. The slightest disturbance of this process can lead to the formation of hypertrophic scars (Hscars), a pathological condition of a fibrotic nature. Hscars are characterized by their reddish appearance due to the formation/maintenance of an extensive network of blood vessels (neoangiogenesis). However, the most striking feature of Hscars is excessive collagen deposition, sustained by myofibroblasts that remain in the area despite healing of the injured surface. Many molecules are involved in this process, such as TGF-ß1 and IL-1a, molecules with pro-fibrotic and inflammatory activity, respectively. Once established, Hscars may only partially heal over time, resulting in the formation of fibrous cords or contractures that can compromise organ function in its entirety, or only partially. To date, there is no effective treatment against the formation of Hscars. The therapeutic tools available are restricted to the use of ointments, laser treatments, or the use of compression garments. In extreme cases of disabling contractures, surgical excision is the recommended approach. Non-invasive treatments (ointments, local compression, and so on) cause an increase in the expression of IL-1a at the lesion site. The objective of this review work is to characterize the individual action of each cytokine and its concomitant actions when acting in the same temporal space, in a wound healing context.

| "Near miss mom": important indicator of the care provided to the pregnant woman | | Author : Fernanda Achkar, Rita de Cássia Silva Calabresi , Yara Juliano, Neil Ferreira Novo, Jane de Eston Armond | | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :OBJECTIVE: The term Near miss was introduced in the study of maternal morbidity making reference to the situation where a woman presents potentially lethal complications during pregnancy, delivery or puerperium, only surviving due to chance or hospital care. The present study aimed to verify the characteristics of women and the variables associated with the near-death condition.
METHODS: Cross-sectional observational study, survey type, descriptive and analytical, carried out through the Medical Archive and Statistics Service (SAME) of Hospital Maternidade de Interlagos, located in the southern region of the city of São Paulo in the year 2019. After collection, descriptive statistics was performed from the Mann - Whitney Test (Siegel), Chi square test (Siegel) and G test for complete data analysis.
RESULTS: It was shown that maternal age, gestational age the first and fifth minute Apgar did not contribute to increase in complications and Near Miss Mom cases. However, the number of children, miscarriages, inadequate prenatal care, and cesarean delivery were shown to be significantly higher in cases of pregnant women who reached Near Miss. Also, the presence of comorbidities in general was not significant, however, we found a pattern in the cases in which 44.4% found blood pressure problems, 11.1% were smokers or used some kind of drug or alcohol, 7.4% had Diabetes, and 7.4% had recurrent urinary tract infections. Furthermore, it was possible to observe that the main causes of maternal morbidity were the same as those presented in the literature - hypertensive crisis, infections, and hemorrhage, besides glycemic crisis and premature placental abruption which also stood out in the study.
CONCLUSION: The main characteristics of women who reached near death were multigestion, without adequate prenatal care, and who had a non-normal delivery. |
| Food and nutrition education for schoolchildren | | Author : Jacqueline Teixeira Cardoso, Gabriela Martinez Moura Tavares, Lucas Vinicius Morais, Luiz Henrique da Silva Nali, Carolina Nunes França, Patrícia Colombo de Souza, Marcela Maria Pandolfi | | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :OBJECTIVE: To systematize the main actions and interventions of Food and Nutrition Education for schoolchildren and describe the activities found in the national literature.
METHODS: Non-systematized literature review on schoolchild feeding education, using the following criteria: articles published in national journals, theses, dissertations, and books on the subject between 2009 and 2022.
RESULTS: In Brazil, food is a right provided for as promulgated in the Federal Constitution since 1988, ensuring the right to school feeding to all students in elementary school through a supplementary school feeding program to be offered by the federal, state, and municipal governments, and since February 2010, food was included among the social rights provided for in Article 6 of the Federal Constitution defined by the Organic Law of Food and Nutrition Security. However, there are still challenges facing its realization.
CONCLUSION: Nutrition Education actions are important because they have benefits for the health of children and promote early food awareness. However, although it is a mandatory item in the educational curriculum to talk about healthy eating according to the guidelines of the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), this subject is not so deep and addressed in studies since it is difficult to select articles, because besides being mandatory in the educational curricula of schools to teach and practice healthy eating, perhaps not at the level of depth and update desired by the authors. Nutrition Education should be an integral part of the mandatory subjects, especially for students in the early stages of education, also reaching those who live with them and society in general. |
| Clinical cardiological predictors in the COVID-19 pandemic: an integrative review | | Author : Victoria Reimberg, Sérgio Henrique Simonetti , Li Men Zhao | | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical predictors in the literature in patients with heart disease infected by COVID-19.
METHODS: This is an integrative literature review study. To elaborate the guiding question, the method used was the PVO strategy where P (population) is the heart disease patients infected by COVID-19, the V (variable) is the variable of interest, which, in this study they will be the clinical predictors during the infection and finally the O (outcome) consists of the results, that is, the prognosis and clinical manifestations. The research was carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and in PubMed.
RESULTS: The initial search resulted in 228 articles and using the PRISMA tool, 37 articles were selected for the partial sample. The final sample consisted of 27 original articles published in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The selected publications were subjected to thematic analysis, separated and grouped into five categories: laboratory alterations, imaging tests, continuous use medications, comorbidities and electrocardiographic alterations.
CONCLUSION: The relationship between the cardiovascular system and the Coronavirus infection is evident in several studies and it is evident that this association leads to more serious outcomes for patients. |
