The Mediating Effect of Work-Life Balance On the Relationship Between Teacher Stress and Performance | Author : Delilah L. Batiancila, Cornelio Jr. R. Monteroso | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The relationship between teacher stress and performance was investigated in this study to determine the mediating effect of work-life balance. The research employed a non-experimental quantitative design, including mediation analysis and descriptive-correlational techniques. Stratified sampling was employed to select 300 public school teachers from the Island Garden City of Samal. Three sets of modified and standardized survey questionnaires were used to collect data from the intended respondents. The mean, Pearson r, Sobel Z test, and regression analysis were utilized to analyze the data. The findings indicated that teacher stress was low, teacher performance was very high, and work-life balance was high. Performance was significantly negatively correlated with teacher stress. In addition, there was a substantial correlation between teacher stress and work-life balance and between work-life balance and teacher performance among teachers. Additionally, the findings indicate that the relationship between teacher stress and performance is partially mediated by work-life balance. This suggests that the inclusion of work-life balance mitigated the prior direct impact of teacher stress on teacher performance. Improving work-life balance can directly impact teachers efficacy in the classroom. Teachers capable of effectively managing tension and maintaining a healthy work-life balance report feeling content with their positions.

| Exploring Contemporary Literary Stories Depicting Gender Bias: A Systemic Functional Linguistic Analysis | Author : Christine Joy P. Talle, Ma. Argelyn May C. Candelasa, Derbone D. Bantilan, Ana Mae M. Monteza | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Contemporary Filipino literature, while evolving, often reflects and reinforces gender norms. This study delves into how gender bias is linguistically constructed in these narratives, examining the potential impact of such representations on societal perceptions and behaviours. To investigate this, a Systemic Functional Linguistic approach, specifically Ideational Meta-Function, was employed to analyse seven selected Filipino literary stories. The analysis focused on linguistic choices, including vocabulary, personal noun usage and the depiction of physical attributes, emotions and behaviour. The findings revealed that the use of simple and label-like terms frequently reinforces traditional gender stereotypes, while more complex and nuances language could either reproduced or challenge these stereotypes. Personal male nouns were often associated with masculine occupations while female nouns were linked to stereotypical roles. Moreover, the portrayal of physical attributes, emotions and behaviour often adhered to traditional gender norms, with males depicted as strong and powerful, and females as fragile and emotionally reactive. Such representations can limit individual expression and perpetuate gender inequality. This study underscores the power of language in shaping gender perceptions and behaviours. It highlights the need of critical analysis of literary texts to identify and challenge gender bias. By understanding how language construct gender, we can work towards more equitable and inclusive representations in literature and society.

| Enhancing Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) In English 5: A Quasi Experimental Study | Author : ALIA I. PACASIRANG, | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This study re-assesses the effectiveness of Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) in enhancing student engagement and academic performance among Grade 5 learners at RC AKIC-Science Laboratory School in Marawi City. The utility of LAS as a dynamic educational tool aimed at fostering greater involvement in learning activities. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved experimental and control group: one group used non-modified LAS and the other utilizing the modified LAS. Data were collected through interview to selected twelve (12) grade five students; English teacher in Grade 5 was also interviewed regarding her perception on the modified Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) used by the researchers during the intervention. The interview has two phases: pre-interview and post-interview focusing on the impact of modified Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) on student learning. Further, there were also structured observation-checklist in which guided the researchers during the intervention. Student assessments and rubric were also utilized to corroborate data. LAS was modified by adding game-based activities, enhanced cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of learning, and the assessment procedures. Findings indicated that while both LAS formats had their respective strengths, the implementation of modified LAS correlated with increased student participation and improved academic performance. This revealed that the experimental group and control group showed no significant difference. However, the experimental group, which used the modified Learning Activity Sheet (LAS), achieved a higher mean score of 3.7134 compared to the mean score of control group, which used the non-modified LAS. Thus, the results suggest that modifications to the LAS positively impact student quiz scores, potentially due to enhanced engagement or clarity in assessment methods.

| The Correlates of Understaffing to Patient Safety and Well-Being of Medical Surgical Nurses | Author : Marjorie S. Ferran | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This investigates the correlation between understaffing, patient safety, and the well-being of medical-surgical nurses in healthcare settings in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, and Balanga City, Bataan. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive correlational research design, data were collected from a diverse sample of 153 medical-surgical nurses through structured surveys. Findings revealed a predominance of young, predominantly female nurses, with a significant perception of understaffing impacting both patient safety and nurse well-being. The results indicate that nurses working in understaffed units reported higher stress levels and lower job satisfaction, correlating with perceived declines in patient safety. Notably, while shift length did not significantly affect well-being, significant differences in well-being perceptions were observed between male and female nurses. Implications suggest that optimizing staffing ratios and providing tailored support could enhance nurse satisfaction and patient care. Recommendations for future research include exploring targeted interventions to address the complex interplay between staffing levels, nurse well-being, and patient outcomes.
